This is what I have written on my blog on my homepage:

Not sure how much people understand what it takes to look after a severally disabled person, be it a child or an adult, but this is what I have had to do.

There are those, who believe it would have been better if they had not been born, but they can also give pleasure and they enjoy life too.

I have a daughter, who needs twenty-four hour care and is now an adult. She goes to a day centre and really enjoys it. They have various activities and take them out too.

My daughter has no understanding of danger, so when out and about, she has a wheelchair to keep her safe, otherwise she would have her hands into everything, and to hold onto her whilest walking would be very difficult and tiresome. She probably would try and go another way or sit on the ground, and if you got distracted, well, disaster could strike. You could not go shopping either, and she loves going round the shops.

Since I have always used a pushchair or a wheelchair when taking her out and about, not sure how far she would walk, but even at the day centre, where she goes, they have found it necessary to have her wheelchair, to get her on and off the bus, also to enable her to be taken out, and for other activities in the centre, as well as at meal times.

She has various problems, including epilepsy, autism and hyperactivity, so can be full of energy, but sometimes very quiet too, and loves toys that make a noise. Reading and writing is something she cannot do, nor can she converse, although she does seem to understand what you say, and sing, in her own way, perfectly, that is in tune etc.

Every person has a different disability, but these people are human and are lovable and happy. It is a pity, that there are still people in this world, who do not agree, although it does seem to be getting better, it probably also depends where you live, unfortunately.
